Retelling an event from a text

Name of text: Giant soup Author: Margaret Mahy L.I = I am learning to retell what I have read The giants mother is gone out on a holiday and the giant doesn't know how to cook. He adds water, onions, carrots and meat in a pot he tries it and he says “ its no good it needs a boy”.  So he puts on his’ sneakers.He caught a boy reading a cook book the boy’s name was. He plopped him down in a the pot. Jason tasted the giants soup soup then he said  “your water is too cold” so the giant turned up the heat on the stove. Then Jason tried it again “its no good you need salt” so the giant adds some salt. Jason drinks some more “ you need pepper” said the boy.So the giant added pepper Jason drank more of the soup “STOP” cried the giant.He picked up jason out of the pot.Jason said”I’ll be happy to help you next time” but then the giant said  “no you eat too much”.

My Reflection

I found this hard because I didn't really understand some of the questions
but when I read it again I then I understood what the question meant.
I found it easy to read the poems.
The next step for me would have to be to understand it more.

It was hard to stay in the lines and to pick a colour for the shape or space.
It was easy to outline the stencils.
I am proud of myself because I finished it just in time like some others.

W.A.L.T write a character profile.
It was tricky to pick a character so I just picked two instead.
It was easy to write the description and to draw the picture.
I am proud of it because I put a lot of effort to it.
The next step for me might be to write more into the description and to
do it to different books.

WALT write a recount using a post card format.

This my post card that I made online on a website.

The main thing that was hard for me was to write one or two things

because I wanted to write something that was about the whole

holiday.It was really easy writing it than thinking of it.

I think the next step for me is to do more and teach others.

I found this piece of art work hard because

I tried to not paint over the vivid and I also tried not to 

paint over the lines.

I managed to finish this piece of work because I tried my hardest and then 

my best at finishing it.

The next step for me would have to be not to talk alot

and to finish it more quicker.

Reading - Authors purpose

I am learning to identify and describe what the author wanted me to feel, think about or see.

Success Criteria.

I will know I have been successful when:

• I can identify what I think the author’s purpose might be
• I can identify the big idea or message/s in the story through character actions or events
• I can describe the thoughts, feelings and actions in the story and link it to author purpose
• I can find evidence in the text to support my thinking, feelings and observations
• I can identify how the illustrations help to get the author’s message across

My reflection

I found this piece of work a bit hard because
I didn't really find anything that scary or bad but the part
that I didn't really get was hard to understand and 
read properly.
I could understand what the author's purpose might
of been. I think it was meant to make your imagination
bigger and believe in fantasy and also the author is trying to tell
you to have lots of adventures and take your imagination with you.

I described some thoughts but sometimes I couldn't it was
hard to but then I managed to think it through later on once I read it again.
the illustrations helped me think hard of what happened and how and when it happened to them.
